To apply on Taleo, select the apply button on the job, register as a new user on that employer’s career site, and work through a series of pages: resume upload, personal information, job-specific questions, education, work history, attachments and a final review. Select “Save and Continue” on each page and “Submit” on the last one. A “Thank You” page confirms the application went through.
Taleo signs you out after a period of inactivity, so save a draft before you step away. You can finish it later from the “My Jobpage” tab.
Key takeaways
- A Taleo login belongs to one employer’s career site. Register again when you apply to a different company.
- The application is a sequence of pages with a progress bar. Nothing reaches the employer until you select “Submit” on the last page.
- Idle sessions end. Oracle lists a default of 60 minutes of inactivity for career sites, and an employer’s setting can differ.
- Uploading a resume fills in part of the form. Review every extracted field on the pages that follow.
- Drafts and submitted applications are listed under “My Jobpage,” where you can finish a draft or withdraw.
- By default the login page does not say whether the user name or the password was wrong, so recover the user name first.
01
How Taleo accounts work
Oracle Taleo is an applicant tracking system that employers use to run their careers pages and collect applications. Each employer has its own career site, often on an address that contains taleo.net, and you sign in to it with a user name and password that you create there.
A college that uses Taleo spells this out for its applicants: the login is not your campus single sign-on, it is separate and for Taleo only. The first time you apply to an employer, select “New User” on the login page and register with a user name, a password and an email address. Some sites also let you sign in with a Google or Yahoo account.
Taleo separates two things that are easy to confuse:
| Term | What it is |
|---|---|
| Profile | General information about you and your job preferences. It is not tied to any opening |
| Application (Taleo calls it a submission) | Your answers and documents for one specific job. Only a submitted application puts you in consideration |
Filling in a profile is not applying. One employer’s Taleo help page says you are considered only for the positions you submit an application for.

How to apply on Taleo, step by step
Employers choose which pages their application includes and in what order. This is the sequence one employer’s Taleo site uses. Yours may add, drop or reorder pages.
- Open the job and select “Apply Online.” The label can vary. You are sent to the login page.
- Sign in, or select “New User” and register. You may have to accept a privacy agreement before the account is created.
- Decide whether to upload a resume. If you do, Taleo extracts information from the file and fills in part of the application. If you do not, you type everything in. Either way, the required fields on the later pages still have to be completed.
- Complete your personal information. This page often starts by asking how you heard about the job. Fields with a red asterisk are required.
- Answer the job-specific questions. These come from the employer and can include questions that screen out applicants who do not meet a stated requirement.
- Add education and work history. Check anything the resume upload filled in: dates, employer names and job titles are where extraction goes wrong.
- Add certifications and references if the employer asks for them.
- Attach files. You can add documents from your computer, such as a cover letter or transcript. Read the posting first, because some employers want specific documents combined into one file.
- Complete the diversity questions and any electronic signature page.
- Review and submit. Read the summary and correct anything that is wrong before you select “Submit.” The “Thank You” page, and usually a confirmation email, tell you the process is complete.
The pages of the application share the same buttons:
- Save and Continue stores the page and moves to the next one.
- Save as Draft stores what you have so you can leave and return.
- Quit leaves the application.
A progress bar across the top shows where you are, for example “Step 4 out of 10.”
If the upload keeps misreading your history, simplify the file; see how to build an ATS-friendly resume.

How long before Taleo times out?
Taleo ends a career site session after a set period without activity. Oracle’s documentation lists the default “Session Maximum Inactive Interval” as 3,600,000 milliseconds, which is 60 minutes. A second setting displays a reminder before the session ends. Only Oracle can change these values for an employer, so the limit on the site in front of you may be shorter or longer.
Do not plan around the exact number. Plan around saving:
- Select “Save and Continue” as soon as a page is complete.
- Select “Save as Draft” before any break, including a phone call.
- Gather dates, addresses, reference details and files before you start.
If you are signed out, sign in again and open “My Jobpage.” Anything saved will be there. Anything typed on the current page since the last save may not be.
04
My Jobpage: drafts, status and withdrawing
“My Jobpage” is your account area. Oracle describes these pages, which an employer can show or hide:
- My Submissions lists your applications and drafts. You can complete or withdraw a draft, and view or withdraw a completed application.
- My Job Cart holds jobs you saved to look at later.
- My Account Options is where you change your contact details, password and security question.
Whether you see a status next to each application depends on the employer: Oracle treats status display as a feature an employer chooses to offer. If the site shows nothing, the confirmation email is your record, and how long it takes to hear back after applying explains what silence usually means.
Editing after you submit is limited. One employer tells applicants that a submitted application cannot be changed, though they can still add a revised resume and other attachments. If something important is wrong, add the corrected document where the site allows it and tell the recruiter:
Subject: Correction to my application: [Job title], [Job number] Hi [Name], I applied for [Job title] on [date]. My application lists [what it says now]. The correct information is [correct detail], and I have attached an updated resume that shows it. Could you add this to my file? Thank you, [Your name]

Common Taleo errors and how to fix them
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The login fails and the message does not say why | By default Taleo does not reveal whether the user name or the password was wrong. Use the “Forgot your user name?” link on the login page first, then “Forgot your password?” |
| You were signed out partway through | Sign in, open “My Jobpage,” find the draft under your submissions and continue from the last page you saved |
| The resume upload filled fields incorrectly | Correct them by hand on the following pages. If the upload fails entirely, skip it and enter the information manually |
| A page says you did not meet the minimum requirements | You gave a disqualifying answer to one of the employer’s screening questions. Employers can also set a waiting period before you can return to that application |
| An attachment will not upload | Employers set their own limits. One college, for example, caps work samples at 10MB and asks for a link to larger files |
| No confirmation arrived | Check that you reached the “Thank You” page, then your spam folder. Add the employer’s email domain to your safe senders |
Keep the user name for each site in a job application tracker, and do the same for an iCIMS job application or a Workday job application.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate Taleo account for each company?
Yes. The user name and password you create belong to that employer’s career site, not to Taleo as a whole. When you apply to another employer that uses Taleo, select “New User” on its login page and register again.
How long does a Taleo session last before it times out?
It depends on the employer’s configuration. Oracle’s documentation lists a default of 60 minutes of inactivity for career sites, with a reminder shown before the session ends. Because the limit can differ, select “Save as Draft” before any break instead of relying on the timer.
Can I save a Taleo application and finish it later?
Yes. Select “Save as Draft” on any page of the application, then sign out. When you return, sign in to the same employer’s career site, open “My Jobpage” and continue the draft from your submissions. The employer does not receive it until you select “Submit” on the final page.
Can I edit a Taleo application after I submit it?
Usually not the answers themselves. Oracle describes completed applications as something you can view or withdraw, and at least one employer tells applicants that a submitted application cannot be changed but that a revised resume and other attachments can still be added. Check your submissions page to see what the site allows.
How do I check my Taleo application status?
Sign in to the employer’s career site and open “My Jobpage,” then your submissions. If the employer displays statuses, one appears beside each job. Not every employer does, and some state that they contact only the candidates selected for an interview.
