Jobvite job application: how to apply, step by step

Applying through a Jobvite career site, start to finish: the form, what happens to the resume you upload, screening questions, confirmation and status checks.

To apply through Jobvite, open the job on the employer’s career site, select the apply button, and upload your resume so the form can fill in your details. Correct the fields, make sure the resume itself is attached, answer any screening questions and submit. A confirmation email normally arrives right away.

You apply on the company’s site, not inside a Jobvite account. Jobvite says applications cannot be submitted from its job seeker account, which exists so you can look at applications you have already sent.

Key takeaways

  • Apply from the employer’s career site or the job board link that leads to it. The job seeker account at app.jobvite.com is for tracking.
  • Upload a Word file or an unlocked PDF. Jobvite cannot take scanned or locked PDFs.
  • After the resume fills in the form, check that the file is also attached to the application.
  • A screening question answered the wrong way can send an application straight to a rejected status. Read each one twice.
  • The confirmation email is your link to the recruiter: replies to it go to the person managing the posting.
  • Jobvite does not change statuses, withdraw applications or make hiring decisions. For those, contact the company.

01

How Jobvite works for candidates

Jobvite is an applicant tracking system: recruiting software that companies use to manage their hiring. In Jobvite’s own words, it plays no part in hiring decisions, and its team does not alter or influence the status of an application. You can usually tell a Jobvite career site by its “Powered by Jobvite” line.

What you want to doWhere it happens
ApplyThe company’s career site, or a job board posting that links to it
See applications you have sentYour job seeker account at app.jobvite.com
Ask about a decision, withdraw or fix a mistakeThe company you applied to

You never need the job seeker account in order to apply. When you do use it, you sign in with your email address and a password, or with Google or LinkedIn, and land on an “Applications” page.

How to apply on Jobvite, step by step

Each employer designs its own form, so treat this as the general sequence.

  1. Open the job on the employer’s career site. If you found the role on a job board, follow the link through to the company’s posting.
  2. Select the apply button. Some forms let you add your LinkedIn profile to the application.
  3. Upload your resume. Jobvite uses it to populate the application fields. Use a Word document or an unlocked PDF.
  4. Check and complete the form. Fix anything the upload misread, then fill in the rest. Every candidate completes the apply form; it is the one part of the process that is always there.
  5. Confirm the resume is attached. Jobvite notes that after uploading a resume to populate the fields, you may still need to use the “Attach” button to include the file with your application.
  6. Answer the screening questions, if there are any. Employers can add a screening form to the application or send one at a later step.
  7. Submit and look for the confirmation email.

03

What happens to your resume

Two things are worth understanding before you upload.

The preview looks wrong. After you upload, you may see your resume as plain text with the formatting gone. Jobvite explains that this is a text-only preview, and that the parsing exists for search inside its software. The recruiter receives a copy of your resume in its original format, such as PDF or Word.

Some files will not go in. Jobvite cannot add resumes that are scanned or locked PDFs. A scan is a picture of a page, with no text to read. Export the resume from your word processor as a PDF, or upload the Word file.

The preview is still worth a look. It shows you the text the software could extract, and that text is what gets searched. If sections are missing or jumbled there, simplify the layout; see this guide to an ATS-friendly resume.

04

Screening questions on Jobvite

Jobvite gives employers two kinds of form, and you may meet both.

FormWhen you see itWhat it is for
Apply formAlways, during the applicationThe standard details every candidate provides
Screening formWith the application, or at a later stepMore detailed questions about a specific role or skill
OFCCP and EEO questionsWith the application, or at a later step, if the employer enables themCompliance reporting

Screening answers can carry real weight. Jobvite’s documentation for recruiters says that when a candidate does not correctly answer a screening question on a job’s screening form, the system automatically routes the application to “Rejected” instead of “New.” It also says a recruiter can move such an application back by hand.

  • Read every yes-or-no and multiple-choice question carefully. A slip on a required qualification can take the application out of the recruiter’s list of new applicants.
  • If you made a genuine mistake, tell the company. A recruiter can correct the status; Jobvite cannot.

05

After you apply: confirmation, status and changes

Confirmation. Jobvite says confirmation emails are typically sent right away, though an employer’s email settings can cause a slight delay. They come from no-reply@jobvite-inc.com, so add that address to your safe senders. You can reply to the confirmation, and the reply goes to the recruiter managing the posting. That makes it the natural thread for following up on a job application.

Status. If the confirmation email contains a link, follow it to see your status. You can also sign in at app.jobvite.com. These are Jobvite’s default statuses, which a company may replace with its own:

StatusJobvite’s definition
NewApplication received
In ProcessThe company is reviewing the application
Not SelectedThe company has not selected the applicant for the position
HiredA candidate has been selected for the position
ClosedThe job has been closed, and no further information is available

For labels outside this list, see what common application statuses mean.

Changes. Jobvite routes all of these through the employer:

  • Updated resume: reply to the confirmation email with the new file and say that you are resubmitting.
  • New email address: sign in, open the application and use “New Message” to tell the recruiter.
  • Withdrawing: contact the company directly.

The resume reply can be this short:

Reply to the confirmation email: updated resume
Hi [Name],

I applied for [Job title] on [date]. I am resubmitting my application with an updated resume, attached, which [adds my current role / corrects my dates at Company]. Please use this version in place of the earlier one.

Thank you,
[Your name]

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Jobvite account to apply for a job?

You do not apply through one. Jobvite states that applications and resumes cannot be submitted from the job seeker account, and that you should use the company’s career site or a job board posting. The account at app.jobvite.com is for viewing applications afterward, and you can register it with the email address you applied with.

How do I check my Jobvite application status?

Start with the confirmation email. If it contains a link, follow it to see your status. Otherwise sign in at app.jobvite.com with your email and password, or with Google or LinkedIn, and open the “Applications” page. If neither shows what you need, contact the company you applied to.

What does “In Process” mean on Jobvite?

It is Jobvite’s default label for an application the company is reviewing. It follows “New,” which means the application was received. Companies can use their own status names, and Jobvite itself does not alter or influence the status, so only the employer can tell you more.

Can I apply to the same job twice on Jobvite?

Generally not. Jobvite says that, with rare exceptions, you cannot apply to the same job twice. To ask for reconsideration, open the earlier application in your job seeker account and send the hiring team a message.

How do I update my resume after applying through Jobvite?

Reply to the confirmation email you received when you applied and attach the new resume. Say clearly that you are resubmitting your application with an updated version, so the recruiter knows which file to use. The reply goes to the recruiter managing that posting.

How do I withdraw an application on Jobvite?

Contact the company you applied to and ask to be withdrawn. Jobvite’s guidance for job seekers is that withdrawals go through the employer directly. Replying to your confirmation email reaches the recruiter responsible for the job.
