Job Summary
The Global Business Services (GBS) Project Supervisor is responsible for planning and executing projects that directly impact the GBS operations network.
The GBS Project Supervisor holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals. He/She manages project lifecycles, including project scope, resources, schedule, initiation, start-up/design, building, and deployment to see projects from beginning-to-end. This position develops project plans (i.e., detailed plan, milestones, and work breakdown structures) and assigns tasks to resources to ensure that the project will be completed on time and according to specifications. The GBS Project Supervisor balances multiple projects and deployment schedules to meet stakeholder goals and expectations. He/She follows up with assigned resources formally (e.g., status meetings, etc.) and informally to continuously manage the productivity of the team, project timelines, and deliverables.
Other Duties - Ensures affected functions or groups are identified and works with them to negotiate process changes, ownership of processes, and to manage project impact. - Compares cost verses benefit analysis to provide recommendations to project stakeholders (e.g., senior managers, external business units, etc.) for decision-making. - Designs the risk matrix and mitigation plan to analyze project benefits and barriers for decreasing exposure to potential risks. - Monitors and controls risks to execute contingency actions when project challenges are presented.
Preferred Competencies - Risk Management: Prioritizes material, and/or multi-functional risks to the enterprise; coordinates and provides governance over risk treatments; develops business continuity plans to improve preparedness and response capabilities. - Meeting Facilitation: Identifies and interprets unspoken feelings, attitudes, or concerns that may be inhibiting meeting progress; anticipates potential problems and effectively provides coaching and direction to resolve conflicts; adjusts meeting objectives as necessary; provides input into better methods for conducting meetings. - Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for moderately complex and medium duration projects as well as basic programs; defines most of the initiatives project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; develops recommendations on best way to fulfill the project requirements given the current project and organizational dynamics; overcomes basic organizational resistance to cross - functional demands; demonstrates ability to successfully apply the project management discipline and remains current on project management practices and tools. - Project Planning: Develops and executes project management plans for moderately complex and medium duration projects as well as basic programs; defines most of the initiatives project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; develops recommendations on best way to fulfill the project requirements given the current project and organizational dynamics; overcomes basic organizational resistance to cross-functional demands; demonstrates the ability to successfully apply the project management discipline and remains current on project management practices and tools. Ability to manage and track multiple projects through the project life cycle from intake through completion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Experience in GBS business processes - Knowledge of Data and Telecom network processes- Preferred - Project Management Certification – Preferred - Medium to advanced knowledge with Microsoft Suite , especially Microsoft Excel
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself - Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) or be a current UPS employee with three years of UPS experience - Must have experience in Project management
