Overview: - The Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is seeking a Database Administrator 2 to provide database application support services for the agency. - DRPT plans, establishes, maintains, improves, and promotes public transportation and freight transportation systems throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. - The Database Administrator will support database operations, server management, database maintenance, application support, and technical troubleshooting. - The position will collaborate with agency staff, external agencies, and project managers to obtain project requirements and specifications. - This role will serve as an assistant agency Database Administrator within the information technology division.

Job Description: - Provide database application support services for DRPT. - Perform database administration and maintenance activities. - Support Microsoft SQL Server environments, including SSRS and T-SQL. - Manage and maintain database-related systems and applications. - Maintain and update code written by internal developers. - Provide technical support and troubleshooting to end users. - Work with project managers and agency stakeholders to understand project requirements and specifications. - Collaborate with internal staff and external agencies as needed. - Support server and system administration activities. - Troubleshoot, investigate, mitigate, and resolve technical problems. - Adapt to new systems, technologies, and procedures as required. - Support the agency as an assistant Database Administrator.

Responsibilities: - Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases. - Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot T-SQL code and database objects. - Support SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). - Maintain and update existing application and database code. - Troubleshoot database, application, server, and technical issues. - Investigate problems and implement appropriate solutions. - Provide end-user technical support. - Assist project managers with database and application-related requirements. - Translate project requirements into database and application solutions when needed. - Collaborate with agency staff, developers, project managers, and external agencies. - Support server and system administration activities. - Assist with maintaining system performance, security, and reliability. - Work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment. - Learn and adapt to new systems and procedures quickly. - Provide clear oral and written communication. - Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: - Progressively responsible experience with Microsoft SQL Server. - Strong experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). - Strong T-SQL programming experience. - Experience performing database administration tasks. - Experience maintaining and updating code written by other internal developers. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. - Ability to troubleshoot, investigate, mitigate, and resolve technical problems. - Ability to adapt quickly to new systems and procedures. - Experience providing end-user technical support and troubleshooting. - Effective oral and written communication skills. - Must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment. - Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience installing, supporting, and troubleshooting software, hardware, and peripherals. - Development experience building, deploying, and supporting applications using .NET Standard 4.8+ and Visual Basic. - Experience with ASP.NET (VB), ASP.NET (C#), ASP, HTML, HTML5, jQuery, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, and JSON. - Ability to translate formal requirements documentation into database and program modules. - Experience with server and system administration, including maintaining optimal performance, security, and reliability. - Full System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience. - Experience troubleshooting and maintaining code written by other developers. - Experience working with Commonwealth of Virginia IT systems and VITA. - Experience with Microsoft SharePoint. - Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Data Analysis Expressions (DAX).

Benefits

Compensation: - Pay Rate: $45–$65/hour. - Contract Type: 1099 Contract. - Benefits: No benefits are provided with this 1099 Contract role. - Expenses: Not reimbursed.

Schedule: - Full-time contract assignment from October 5, 2026 through September 30, 2027. - Assignment duration is approximately 12 months. - Hybrid work arrangement. - Specific onsite/remote schedule is determined by agency business needs.
