Job Description:
The Platform Engineer is a skilled, independent contributor who designs, implements, and supports core platform and infrastructure capabilities that power magical Disney Experiences across parks, resorts, cruises, and consumer products. You will focus on data pipelines, on-prem server architecture, observability, and DevOps automation, ensuring robust, scalable, and reliable environments that enable teams to deliver seamless guest and cast experiences.
We are seeking an individual to take full ownership of a large-scale Splunk environment supporting mission-critical operational and engineering systems. This role will be responsible for managing the entire Splunk ecosystem from the infrastructure layer (bare metal) through application-level development, in direct support of software engineering teams responsible for complex physical systems and real-time operations.
This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical expertise across infrastructure, data ingestion, and observability, with a strong emphasis on reliability, scalability, and performance.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will act as a proficient problem-solver and effective partner to engineering and product teams, owning platform components from design through operations while mentoring colleagues and working with minimal guidance. You will emphasize automation, observability, and lifecycle management platforms to improve reliability, reduce operational toil, and support data-driven decisions that enhance Disney Experiences worldwide. - Own and manage the full Splunk stack - End-to-end responsibility from bare metal infrastructure → OS → Splunk architecture → dashboards and analytics - Design, deploy, and maintain Splunk infrastructure - Install, configure, and optimize Splunk components (indexers, search heads, forwarders, clustering) - Manage both on-premise/physical server environments and hybrid integrations - Support real-time operational systems - Enable monitoring and observability for high-availability, real-time engineering systems - Build dashboards and alerts used by engineering and operations teams - Develop data pipelines and ingestion strategies - Integrate data from diverse sources (logs, sensors, applications, control systems) - Optimize parsing, indexing, and search performance - Partner with software engineering leadership - Work closely with Software Engineering Managers and system teams - Translate operational requirements into scalable Splunk solutions - Performance tuning and system reliability - Identify bottlenecks across infrastructure and data pipelines - Ensure high availability, redundancy, and system resilience - Security, governance, and access control - Implement role-based access and data governance best practices - Maintain compliance with enterprise security standards - Continuous improvement - Recommend architecture improvements and modernization strategies - Evaluate tools within the Splunk ecosystem (e.g., ITSI, ES, Cribl, etc.)
Required Qualifications - 3+ years of experience with Splunk administration and development - Proven experience owning a Splunk environment end-to-end - Strong hands-on experience with: - Splunk Enterprise architecture (indexers, search heads, clustering) - Data ingestion, parsing, and optimization - Dashboard and alert development - Experience managing on-prem / bare-metal infrastructure - Linux administration (preferred) - Server provisioning, performance tuning, and system monitoring - Experience supporting real-time, high-availability systems - Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications - Experience supporting engineering, industrial, or operational technology (OT) environments - Familiarity with observability and logging tools beyond Splunk (e.g., Cribl, ELK, Prometheus) - Experience with event-driven systems, telemetry data, or IoT/sensor integrations - Exposure to high-throughput environments with large-scale data ingestion - Splunk certifications (Admin, Architect, or Developer)
Required Education - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field or relevant work experience
The hiring range for this position in Orlando, FL is $92,900 to $124,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
