Job description

At SimPL Freight Solutions , we simplify transportation for companies that move a lot of freight but don’t want the headache of managing it all themselves. We step in as their transportation team - coordinating shipments, managing carrier relationships, tracking performance, and improving how everything runs behind the scenes.

Our customers range from large manufacturers to high-volume distributors across industries like automotive, building materials, food, and packaging. No matter the industry, the goal is the same: keep freight moving smoothly, efficiently, and without surprises.

We pride ourselves on being proactive, responsive, and accountable - anticipating issues, communicating clearly, and continuously finding better ways to deliver results.

Position Overview

SimPL is seeking an experienced Manager of LTL Strategy and Procurement to build, manage, and continuously improve our Less-Than-Truckload capabilities across our managed transportation customer portfolio.

This is a hands-on role for an LTL expert who understands the full shipment lifecycle - from carrier sourcing, pricing, and contract negotiations to routing, execution, freight classification, accessorial management, claims, invoice accuracy, and performance measurement.

Unlike a traditional brokerage role focused primarily on transactional margin, this position will help customers build stronger LTL programs by improving carrier selection, pricing, routing decisions, service performance, and visibility. The ideal candidate combines deep LTL knowledge with an entrepreneurial mindset and is excited by the opportunity to build a scalable LTL practice as SimPL grows.

What You'll Do

- Develop and lead SimPL's overall LTL strategy across our managed transportation customer portfolio

- Evaluate customer LTL networks and identify opportunities to improve cost, service, carrier mix, routing, consolidation, and mode selection.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with national, regional, and specialized LTL carriers.

- Lead carrier sourcing, RFPs, negotiations, contracting, and business reviews.

- Negotiate competitive rates, discounts, minimum charges, FAK structures, accessorial schedules, fuel programs, and other commercial terms.

- Develop carrier-selection strategies based on geography, freight characteristics, service requirements, capacity, and shipment volume.

- Analyze shipment-level data and carrier agreements to identify measurable savings and service-improvement opportunities.

- Establish standardized procedures for routing, shipment execution, exceptions, reweighs, reclassifications, accessorial disputes, claims, and billing discrepancies.

- Monitor carrier and customer performance, including pickup, transit, on-time delivery, damage, claims, billing accuracy, and other critical LTL KPIs.

- Partner with Operations and carriers to address recurring service failures and resolve root causes.

- Work with SimPL's technology and operations teams to improve LTL rating, tendering, tracking, documentation, invoicing, reporting, and carrier connectivity.

- Develop LTL scorecards, dashboards, and reporting for customers and internal leadership.

- Serve as SimPL's LTL subject-matter expert in customer meetings, implementations, solution design, and business-development efforts.

- Develop internal LTL training, scalable best practices, and the team structure needed to support future growth.

What Success Looks Like

- A clearly defined, scalable LTL strategy and operating model for SimPL.

- A strong portfolio of national, regional, and specialized carrier relationships.

- Consistent LTL procurement, pricing, routing, and operational processes.

- Measurable customer savings and service improvements.

- Greater visibility into rates, accessorials, carrier performance, and invoice accuracy.

- Reliable carrier scorecards and meaningful LTL performance metrics.

- Recognition as a trusted LTL advisor to SimPL's customers, operations teams, and leadership.

What You'll Bring

- 7+ years of LTL transportation experience, including progressively responsible work in carrier management, pricing, procurement, managed transportation, or third-party logistics.

- Deep knowledge of the LTL carrier marketplace, including national and regional carrier networks, service areas, and transit capabilities.

- Demonstrated experience negotiating LTL carrier pricing, contracts, and commercial agreements.

- Strong understanding of tariffs, discounts, minimum charges, FAKs, fuel programs, accessorials, freight classification, and NMFC requirements.

- Experience analyzing large LTL shipment datasets and translating findings into actionable cost and service improvements.

- Experience with transportation management systems and electronic or API-based carrier connectivity.

- Strong analytical, financial, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

- The ability to communicate complex transportation concepts clearly to customers, carriers, leadership, and internal teams.

- A demonstrated ability to build processes, solve problems, and operate effectively in an entrepreneurial environment.

Experience in a managed transportation or 4PL environment, leading large shipper LTL programs, managing LTL RFPs, optimizing transportation networks, analyzing freight invoices, or building an LTL product or business unit is strongly preferred.

What We Offer

- A competitive salary plus bonus opportunities.

- Professional development and continued leadership growth.

- The opportunity to build and shape SimPL's LTL strategy and capabilities.

- Excellent benefits, including:

- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

- Life and disability insurance.

- A company 401(k) plan with employer match.

- Paid time off and nine paid holidays.

Core Values - Figure It Out, Make It Happen - Results Matter - Passion & Grit - Integrity - Teamwork
