Siepe is seeking a Senior Manager, SQL Development, who will also be our lead data engineer: a hands-on owner of the data platform end to end, not just someone who manages people who own it. The pipelines you're responsible for turn custodian and administrator feeds into the numbers our hedge fund clients rely on every day. If a feed is late or wrong, the client sees it. That's on you. Correctness, performance, and uptime aren't nice-to-haves here, they're the job.

The platform you're inheriting is mature and high-volume, and a lot of the logic still lives in legacy tooling. You won't be starting from scratch, and you won't just be keeping the lights on either. You need to be able to troubleshoot a failing SSIS package under production pressure on Tuesday and walk our leadership team through a modernization roadmap on Thursday, and be equally credible doing both.

What You’ll Be Doing

Hands-on development: - Onboard new custodian, administrator, and vendor feeds end to end: landing, canonical mapping, pipeline wiring, and the delivery SLA that comes with it. - Write the code that eliminates manual work: parameterized reruns and backfills, idempotent loads, shared tooling instead of one-off scripts. - Lead root-cause work on production pipeline issues and close it out with a permanent fix, not a rerun. - Design, plan, build, and tune set-based T-SQL: stored procedures, normalization views, indexing strategy, execution plans. Leverage SQL Development team and DBAs to execute.

Leadership and roadmap: - Build a sequenced modernization roadmap with a business case you can defend. - Make the build/buy/migrate calls on orchestration, transformation and observability. - Apply strangler-fig discipline: new capability behind stable contracts, incremental cutover, always-reversible steps. - Raise the engineering floor: testing, release standards, schema-change practice, and a change process fast enough that people use it instead of routing around it. - Build evidence based SLOs for feed timeliness and completeness with telemetry. - Set technical direction for onshore and offshore engineers through design review, code review, and pairing. Grow the bench so fewer things live in only one person's head.

What You’ll Bring - 8+ years building and operating production data pipelines, including time as a lead, staff, principal, or hands-on manager setting technical direction for other engineers. - Expert T-SQL and real SQL Server depth: set-based transformation, window functions, merge patterns, safe dynamic SQL, data typing discipline. Indexing and covering-index design, execution plans, statistics, isolation levels, blocking and deadlock analysis, and the tuning instincts that keep large tables fast. - Hands-on SSIS experience: control flow and data flow, deployment models, parameters, dtexec, and honest judgment about when a package is worth improving and when it's worth replacing. - Warehouse fundamentals you can apply rather than recite: staging versus conformed layers, upsert and merge patterns, slowly changing dimensions, surrogate and natural keys, effective dating, auditability, and the judgment to know which pattern fits.

AI-first delivery - Understanding of how to build AI orchestration and guardrails. - Familiarity with LLMs and tools that are relevant such as skills, plugins, etc. - Multi-Agent management as the primary goal for engineers to oversee/guide

Data engineering and modeling - Cloud data platform exposure (Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric), with a defensible point of view on when it earns its keep and when it doesn't - dbt or an equivalent declarative transformation framework, including its testing and documentation model - Production experience with a real workflow orchestrator: Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent. DAG design, retries with backoff, idempotency, backfills, SLA monitoring, and dependency management. - Data Vault 2.0 or dimensional (Kimball) modeling, relevant as we consider a true analytical layer, the current warehouse is a consolidation hub, not a star schema

PowerShell and AWS - PowerShell at an engineering standard: modules and manifests, Pester, PSScriptAnalyzer, structured error handling, PowerShell 7 migration - AWS experience in a Windows estate: EC2, S3, Secrets Manager, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)

Messaging and event-driven integration - RabbitMQ, Kafka, Azure Service Bus outbox pattern - Idempotent consumers, dead-letter queues, replay
