Job description

Welcome to the future of energy

Octopus is a tech-powered energy company. We believe technology has the power to address our greatest challenge, climate change, while also delivering incredible service and customer experience.

We are changing the way people interact with their energy company - by making it approachable, low cost, easy-to-understand, and most importantly, 100% renewable.

HEADING 3 - Insert Overview

What you'll do

- Own partner onboarding & setup: Manage and execute the end-to-end journey for bringing new brokers, aggregators, and digital partners onto the Octopus platform—handling administrative setup, rate sheets/EFL coordination, and API technical onboarding workflows alongside our Product and Engineering teams.

- Provide responsive partner support: Serve as the primary operational point of contact for active commercial partners, answering integration queries, resolving statement discrepancies, and delivering a high-quality partner experience.

- Define & audit commission logic: Translate complex commercial deal structures (residuals, volume tiers, look-back clawbacks, retro-payments) into logic for our data engineering team, auditing monthly Databricks payout runs before passing clean files to Finance.

- Drive conversion analytics: Build and maintain daily conversion reporting and dashboards using Databricks Genie to track funnel health and identify enrollment drop-offs (pending statuses, credit failures, uncollected deposits).

- Drive the internal feedback loop: Channel partner insights, API bugs, and common operational friction points to internal Product, Data, and Engineering teams to continually refine our tools and enrollment pipelines.

- Unstick enrollment pipelines: Partner directly with Retail Operations to troubleshoot root causes of stuck customer orders and optimize customer flow to active supply.

- Automate documentation & reporting: Deliver clear, automated weekly and monthly enrollment, conversion, and commission statements to our external partner network.

What you'll need

- Analytical confidence & coding basics: Comfortable working with data in SQL and directly within the Databricks UI and Databricks Genie ecosystem to query datasets, build reports, and audit numbers.

- ERCOT / Retail energy fluency: Solid grasp of Texas retail electric market mechanics, TDSPs, ESI IDs, and customer switch workflows.

- Top-tier communication & partner focus: Ability to clearly explain technical processes, manage project timelines, and professionally interact with commercial business contacts.

- Meticulous attention to detail: A strong desire to ensure every step of a commercial contract, commission calculation, or onboarding workflow is completed accurately.

- AI-native mindset: Hands-on experience actively leveraging modern AI tools—specifically the Gemini AI suite and Claude Code —to accelerate SQL query writing, analyze data anomalies, automate operational workflows, and build documentation, paired with the discipline to double-check and validate every output.

- Adaptability & self-starter mindset: Comfortable operating autonomously through fast growth with light supervision, but humble enough to raise your hand when stuck.

Bonus points if you have

- Prior experience in a Partner Operations, Revenue Operations, Commercial Analytics, or Account Management role at a Retail Electric Provider (REP) or energy tech company.

- Direct experience handling retail energy commission structures, settlements, or billing exception logic.

- A track record of taking a broken or manual reporting process and turning it into an automated workflow.

Why else you'll love it here

- Real autonomy & ownership: A flat structure where you own your domain and move fast with a team that backs you.

- Impactful mission: Accelerating the shift to a cheaper, greener grid with one of the world's most disruptive climate-tech companies.

- Equity Options: Every Octopus employee owns part of the business. - Salary: The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000 – $90,000 annually depending on the candidate's background & level of experience, but just ask us on your initial call—we always maintain flexibility to match experience with the right fit!

- Health & Wellness: Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees & their families.

- Time Off: 20 days of paid vacation and 8 paid sick days annually.

- Retirement: 401(k) plan with employer match (100% on the first 3%, 50% from 3–5%).

- Flexible working environment: Our team works out of our Downtown Houston office 3 days a week with genuine flexibility for real work/life balance.

If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you.

Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Octopus, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, an inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone.
