Job description

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join our team. This individual will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related fabrication projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, construction drawings, material takeoffs, labor requirements, and project specifications. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who understands how steel projects move from plans and specifications through fabrication and delivery.

Key Responsibilities - Review construction drawings, structural plans, specifications, and project documents - Perform accurate material and quantity takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals - Prepare estimates for: - Steel beams and columns - Wide flange shapes - Square and rectangular tube shapes - Steel pipe - Bar joists, joist girders, and long-span joists - Shop-fabricated trusses - Structural steel decking - Steel stairs and railings - Plates and miscellaneous steel - Reinforcing bar - Estimate material, labor, fabrication, equipment, freight, and other project costs - Solicit and evaluate pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors - Identify scope requirements, exclusions, potential conflicts, and areas of risk - Prepare detailed bids, proposals, and supporting documentation - Coordinate with project managers, engineers, detailers, shop personnel, vendors, and customers - Assist with pricing change orders and revisions as needed - Maintain organized estimating records and bid documentation - Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project specifications and company standards - Support the team in identifying opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and profitability

Requirements - 5+ years of experience estimating structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or metal fabrication projects - Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications - Understanding of structural steel shapes, fabrication processes, and construction methods - Experience performing material takeoffs and developing labor and material pricing - Strong mathematical and analytical skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating-related software - Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills - Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
