Sign up to applyDirector - Software Product Management Description - Software Product Management Director 1 – Poly Video Portfolio (PolyOS Firmware OS and Poly Video Application) Position Overview This role is responsible for leading the strategy, planning, execution, and organizational effectiveness of the software product function across the Poly Video portfolio , with primary focus on the PolyOS firmware/operating system and the Poly Video application layer . The role provides director-level leadership across software roadmap definition, prioritization, release planning, execution oversight, and cross-functional alignment to ensure the portfolio delivers differentiated, high-quality software experiences that support business objectives and customer needs. The Director will unify software planning and delivery into a coherent operating model, creating stronger accountability, transparency, and execution discipline across multiple Scrum teams and software workstreams. The role will partner closely with Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Support, Operations, and executive stakeholders to ensure software priorities are translated into executable plans, risks are surfaced early, tradeoffs are made with clarity, and roadmap commitments are delivered with greater predictability. This is a strategic and operational leadership role for a business-critical software portfolio. The successful candidate will help shape the future software direction of the Poly Video business while improving near-term delivery rigor, roadmap credibility, and team effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end software product management function for the Poly Video portfolio, with responsibility across PolyOS firmware/OS and Poly Video application strategy, roadmap, and execution.
- Establish and drive a unified operating model across software planning and delivery, ensuring clear ownership, decision rights, prioritization discipline, and consistent execution rhythms.
- Own software roadmap governance across multiple Scrum teams, including prioritization, resource alignment, milestone planning, dependency management, and release readiness.
- Partner with Engineering leadership to translate portfolio strategy into executable development plans that balance innovation, quality, scalability, technical debt, and operational readiness.
- Drive accountability for delivery outcomes, including transparency to roadmap status, throughput, release content, schedule risk, and organizational constraints.
- Lead cross-functional tradeoff discussions across Product, Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Support, Certification, Compliance, and Operations to ensure business priorities are reflected in software execution plans.
- Build and develop a high-performing software product organization.
- Provide strategic guidance on software investment priorities, feature sequencing, platform evolution, and portfolio-level business tradeoffs.
- Monitor customer, market, competitive, and ecosystem signals to inform roadmap direction and improve product differentiation.
- Use metrics and operational data to improve execution rigor, increase delivery predictability, and drive continuous improvement in software planning and delivery performance.
- Serve as a senior advisor to leadership on software portfolio health, execution risk, organizational design, and future capability needs.
- Ensure product and platform decisions support both current business requirements and the long-term evolution of the Poly Video software portfolio.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Deep knowledge of software product management , including roadmap development, feature prioritization, lifecycle management, and release planning.
- Strong understanding of embedded software , firmware/OS platforms , and application-layer software in connected device or systems-based environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizations operating in Agile / Scrum environments across multiple teams and concurrent workstreams.
- Strong strategic thinking skills, including situation analysis, recommendation development, execution planning, and strategy communication.
- Ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, translating business priorities into actionable software plans and communicating complex topics with clarity.
- Experience driving alignment across Product, Engineering, Program Management, UX, Quality, Support, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong leadership capability in influence, accountability, team development, and organizational design .
- Ability to use data, operational indicators, and market insight to guide product decisions, measure progress, and improve organizational performance.
- Strong business acumen, including understanding of portfolio tradeoffs, investment prioritization, customer value, and competitive positioning.
- Experience managing ambiguity, navigating complex dependencies, and leading large cross-functional initiatives through change.
- Excellent executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to coach and develop product management talent and establish scalable operating disciplines.
Scope and Impact This role has broad cross-functional scope across the Poly Video software organization and is accountable for software product leadership spanning both platform and application domains. The Director will influence strategy and execution across multiple teams, driving portfolio-wide alignment on priorities, sequencing, and delivery expectations. The impact of this role extends across:
- software roadmap credibility and execution predictability,
- product differentiation and customer experience,
- release quality and organizational throughput,
- cross-functional transparency and decision-making speed,
- team accountability and management effectiveness,
- and the long-term scalability of the software product organization.
This role will lead large, cross-functional efforts that affect business priorities, software release outcomes, and the strategic evolution of the Poly Video portfolio. Success in this position will materially improve how software strategy is converted into delivered business value.
Complexity This role operates in a highly complex environment involving multiple software domains, multiple Scrum teams, competing priorities, cross-functional dependencies, and evolving business needs. The work requires balancing strategic direction with execution discipline across a portfolio that includes platform software, application software, release management needs, and future architectural evolution. The role must routinely:
- manage ambiguity and incomplete information,
- make tradeoff decisions across roadmap, resourcing, and schedule,
- align stakeholders with different priorities and success criteria,
- resolve organizational friction between planning and execution,
- and drive progress in a fast-moving environment where software outcomes have visible business impact.
The successful candidate must provide innovative, practical solutions to complex product and organizational problems, while operating with a high degree of independence, sound judgment, and accountability.
Education and Experience
- Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering , or another related discipline; or equivalent experience and demonstrated competence.
- Typically 10+ years of experience in software product management, software development leadership, embedded/firmware/software platforms, digital product development, or related fields.
- Significant experience leading cross-functional software initiatives from strategy through release.
- Experience managing product managers, technical leaders, or other managers in a complex software organization is strongly preferred.
- Experience with embedded systems, device software, collaboration solutions, enterprise software platforms, or adjacent connected hardware/software ecosystems is preferred.
- Experience operating at Director level or equivalent scope, with responsibility for both organizational leadership and business-critical delivery outcomes, is preferred.
