Paylocity job application: how to apply, step by step

How to apply on a Paylocity careers page at recruiting.paylocity.com: resume upload, work history, screening questions, text messages and fixes for common errors.

To apply through Paylocity, open the job on the employer’s careers page at recruiting.paylocity.com and select Apply. Give the form your resume first, so it can pre-fill what it reads, then complete the rest: contact details, work history, education, any screening questions and an acknowledgment. You do not create an account, and the pages need a current browser with JavaScript switched on.

Paylocity is payroll and HR software that employers also use for recruiting. It hosts the application and can send texts on the employer’s behalf, but for news about your application, Paylocity sends you to the employer.

Key takeaways

  • Paylocity-hosted postings sit on recruiting.paylocity.com and carry a “Powered by Paylocity” line at the bottom of the page.
  • There is no account. The application runs over several steps, and what it asks depends on the employer.
  • Expect more typing than on a one-page form. Paylocity applications commonly ask for work history and education, and sometimes for references.
  • The form asks whether the employer may text you. Text STOP to opt out later and START to opt back in.
  • A “Job Not Found” page means the posting does not exist or is no longer active.
  • Paylocity does not answer questions about an application. Its own FAQ tells you to contact the employer.

01

How do you recognize a Paylocity application?

You are applying to the employer, not to Paylocity, which supplies the software the page runs on. Three signs identify it.

  • The address. Careers pages, postings and application forms all sit on recruiting.paylocity.com. Paylocity’s own careers site uses a numbered variant of the same address. The list of openings is titled with the employer’s name and “Job Opportunities.”
  • The posting. Each job has its own page with the title, the location, the description and, where the employer gives one, a salary description. Apply buttons sit at the top and bottom, and an All Jobs link leads back to the list.
  • The footer. A “Powered by Paylocity” line, with links to Paylocity’s privacy policy and to its terms for job text messages.

A Workday application makes you create an account at each employer. Paylocity does not, but it resembles Workday in asking for your history field by field, which makes it longer than a short form such as a BambooHR application.

What does a Paylocity application ask for?

Employers build their form from Paylocity’s sections and decide which fields appear and which are required. The table shows what those sections commonly contain, based on live Paylocity applications checked for this guide, including the one on Paylocity’s own careers site.

SectionWhat it commonly asksGood to know
ResumeA Word or PDF file, uploaded at the startThe form uses it to fill in fields, and some employers require it
Your informationName, email, mobile number, address, the date you can start and how you heard about the jobExtras can include a LinkedIn URL, desired salary, a referrer’s name, a cover letter and additional files
Permission to textWhether the employer may text you during hiringYou can opt out later by texting STOP
Work historyEmployer, position, responsibilities, start and end dates, reason for leaving and sometimes a supervisor’s contact detailsSome employers require at least one entry
EducationSchool, area of study, whether you graduated and the degreeSome forms add certificates or awards
ReferencesName, contact details, whether personal or professional, and years knownAppears only when the employer has switched it on; see the guide to job references
Screening questionsThe employer’s own questions, mostly multiple choiceAs on any platform, some answers may be disqualifying
Equal opportunity and acknowledgmentVoluntary self-identification questions, a work authorization question and a statement you accept before submittingThe acknowledgment usually certifies that your answers are true

Work history is where the time goes. Prepare each entry before you open the form.

How do you apply on Paylocity, step by step?

  1. Start from the job’s own page and press Apply. Check the location and any salary description first.
  2. Upload your resume when the form offers it. Use a .docx or a PDF with selectable text and a simple layout, which is what the ATS-friendly resume guide recommends for any upload that software has to read.
  3. Correct your information. Check every field the upload filled in, then add what it missed.
  4. Answer the texting question. Say yes only if you want texts about this application.
  5. Complete work history and education. Add an entry for each job, most recent first, and check the dates against your resume.
  6. Add references if the form asks for them, after you have asked the people concerned.
  7. Answer the screening questions. Read each option before you choose: employers can act on these answers automatically, as the guide to applicant tracking systems describes.
  8. Complete or decline the voluntary questions, then read and accept the acknowledgment.
  9. Review and submit. Some employers show a preview of the whole application first.

Two things to watch for on the way. Finish in one sitting: the page warns that leaving before you submit loses your progress. And some forms carry a notice that the employer uses AI to analyze applications, with a link to learn more or opt out. Read it before you submit.

How do Paylocity job texts work?

Paylocity runs a job text service for employers, and its published terms explain it from your side. You can be opted in by texting an employer’s keyword to a number, by agreeing during an application, or through later contact in the hiring process.

Once you are in, messages can include a welcome message, a link to the employer’s promoted jobs, application-related messages, interview scheduling messages and status updates. Message frequency varies, and your carrier’s message and data rates may apply. A link in a text takes you to the employer’s job postings, a job description, an application or a contact form.

05

What happens after you submit a Paylocity application?

You have no account, so nothing on Paylocity shows you a status. Note the date, the job title and the posting’s address before you close the tab.

From there, the employer contacts you by email or phone, or by text if you agreed to it. Paylocity’s own FAQ is direct about where questions go: for information about jobs you applied to, interview scheduling or application status, contact the employer. If the posting gave a timeline and it has passed, the guide to application follow-ups shows how to ask.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to apply through Paylocity?

No. You select Apply on the posting and go straight into the form, with no password or sign-up step. The price of that convenience is that you cannot sign in later to see the application, so keep your own note of the job and the date.

Where are Paylocity job applications hosted?

On recruiting.paylocity.com. An employer’s list of openings, each posting and the application form all sit on that address, and the pages end with a “Powered by Paylocity” line. The employer’s name appears in the page title and the address.

Why does Paylocity say my browser is unsupported?

The recruiting pages are built for current browsers with JavaScript switched on. If yours is outdated, or scripts are blocked, the page shows “You are using an unsupported browser” in place of the form. Update the browser, or switch to a current version of Chrome or Firefox.

What does “Job Not Found” mean on a Paylocity job page?

Paylocity shows that page with the message that the job does not exist or is not currently active. In practice the posting has usually been closed or taken down. Open the employer’s list of jobs to check whether a similar role is still open.

Why am I getting texts from Paylocity about a job?

Because you opted in to an employer’s job texts: by texting its keyword, during an application or in later hiring contact. Paylocity sends the messages on the employer’s behalf. Text STOP to the number to end them, and START if you want them back.

How do I check the status of a Paylocity application?

Contact the employer. The application involved no login, so there is no status page, and Paylocity’s FAQ says that for interview scheduling, application status updates and other questions about jobs you applied to, you should contact the employer directly.
